TIPS FOR FLYING

It's coming up to the holiday season and that means that you're more than likely going on a plane in the near future. I've compiled a few tips to help achieve a more pleasant flying experience. Whether you're a nervous flyer or just looking for a more enjoyable flight, I hope this little nugget of advice is helpful.

HYDRATE
The air on aeroplanes is very dry and it's very important to stay hydrated. The most simple tip is to drink plenty of water Obviously you can't take big bottles of water in your hand luggage, but if you can I recommend buying something from a brand like Vitaminwater from duty free before boarding. When you're on the plane, it can get a bit claustrophobic and overwhelming, so for me a refreshing spray such as the Anatomicals Misty For Me Facial Spritz is an essential. This not only hydrates, but also cools skin, making it a great beach/poolside companion. Another hydrating essential is a good lip balm. If you're on a long haul flight, I recommend something with a little more pack to it's punch, like the Nuxe Reve De Miel Lip Balm. However, if your flight isn't very long, I recommend avoiding anything too intense and opting for something that's a little more practical for hot weather. I've chosen the Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Lip Protectant Stick as it has SPF 15 and the range also includes some tinted lip balms that would give you an effortless burst of colour for when you step off the plane.

CALM
When you're on a long haul flight, it's more than likely you'll want to have a bit of a kip. And even if you're not planning on sleeping, it's important to keep relaxed or else you'll be checking your watch every 5 minutes. Particularly if you're a nervous flyer, it's nice to carry a sleep balm like the Anatomicals Cruisin' For a Snoozin' Sleep Balm. A quick massage of this on the pulse points, on the lips or under the nose and you'll be out like a light. Another thing to consider are ear plugs - with the noise for the engines it can be a little difficult to block it out, but ear plugs will definitely help reduce the noise levels.

ENTERTAIN
It's all well and good talking about how to keep hydrated and calm, but lets face it, we all get bored on flights and we need something to help pass the time. I recommend picking a few magazines and getting yourself a good book. I also recommend taking some music and a nice pair of headphones. I love my Urbanears, the sound quality is brilliant and they cancel out so much noise including aeroplane engine noise. If you want some song recommendations to get you in the summer mood, check out my Summer Playlist.

Let me know in the comments if you're flying anywhere nice this year or if you have any more tips for a happier flying experience.

  1. Great tips! I am flying out to Spain this July and never before have I really taken care of my skin in-flight.. this time might be an exception as I do not want to suffer another dehydration session this time! :P
