EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT DRY BRUSHING

Dry brushing is one of the latest celeb budget beauty trends, and obviously I am here to give you all the details. The likes of Miranda Kerr and Molly Sims are reported to have tried this technique and swear by it, but is it actually worth our time and effort?

What is dry brushing?
So this trend doesn't really require too much explanation, but it's basically a technique that consists of taking a dry body brush (available from drugstores and beauty shops - this is the one I have - ensure that the bristles are natural) and brushing it over your dry skin to, amongst other things, exfoliate your skin.

What does dry brushing actually do?
First and foremost, dry brushing is a brilliant, natural way of exfoliating the skin without applying hash chemicals or perfumes. Also, although there isn't much research to back it up, many people say that it's great at helping with cellulite. Dry brushing has also been found to improve circulation and energy levels.

How do I do dry brushing?
1. You can apply a little oil to the brush if you like - olive oil is great for this, it's 100% natural and something you can pick up from the supermarket. This will ensure that both your brush and skin are soft.
2. Start at the feet and brush in long smooth strokes towards the heart. Go over each section of skin around 5-10 times.
3. For the arms, start at the hands and repeat the same process, doing the same about of strokes.
4. Repeat again for the stomach and back, again moving towards the heart.

How effective is dry brushing?
I've found that although the results aren't mind blowing, my skin is a lot more smooth and soft. Also, the idea of using a natural brush is much more appealing than a body scrub filled with a million and one ingredients.

Will I be doing dry brushing more in the future?
I think I will yes. I've been trying it for a few weeks now and so it's become part of my routine, so I'd definitely like to continue with it as I really do prefer it to using a body scrub. It also doesn't take up a lot of time either. It should really only take you 10 minutes to do all of your body, so I've been whacking a face mask on and then getting to work with my brush whilst it does it's stuff on my face. I've also found that I only really need to dry brush as often as I do a face mask, so the two go hand in hand really well.

Let me know if you've ever tried dry brushing or if you think you'll try it in the future.

  1. Great post lovely, it's something I've been meaning to try for a while as it' meant to be so good at helping to rid your body of toxins! Wouldn't have known where to start though so glad I read your post - will deffo invest in some decent olive oil to use with the brush!
