MAC VELVET TEDDY LIPSTICK DUPE

It's always a special day when you discover a Mac dupe in your stash and my latest discovery is MUA's Fawn Fancy, which looks incredibly similar to Mac's Velvet Teddy. Now, I want to start this post by mentioning a couple of things because I know you guys are probably sitting there frowning and thinking, "okay, maybe the colour is similar, but there's no way you can replace a Mac lipstick with one that costs £1". So, what I will say is - first, I am a huge Mac lipsticks fan, the matte and satin lipsticks are by far my favourite lipstick formulas of all time and I know how good they are. Second, if you forgot about the price and blind-swatched (nice phrase, Laura) these two lipsticks, yes you would probably still choose Mac, but they are so similar, it really honestly would be a close competition.

Colourwise, MUA's is slightly lighter but overall the colour match is really really close. However, I will mention that the opacity of Mac is a lot stronger, whereas MUA needs to be swiped over the lips a few times to get the same colour payoff (which isn't always a bad thing), but I never find that the MUA lipstick is particularly heavy and uncomfortable if ever I layer it up.

Finish-wise, these are pretty much identical - they both have a really nice creamy matte finish.

Longevity-wise, obviously the Mac one lasts longer (because the longevity of Mac lipsticks is incredible), and the MUA one does wear off quite a bit quicker. But if, in your day, you have opportunities to top it up, then obviously this wouldn't be a massive problem.

At the end of the day, I would choose Mac's Velvet Teddy over MUA's Fawn Fancy, simply because it lasts longer. But Fawn Fancy is still one of my favourite lipsticks (which I have actually repurchased in the past) and it's one that I reach for when I want less of an intense colour, or if I know I don't need to wear it for a long time. Overall, I would say that the MUA lipstick is definitely worth buying if you don't want to splurge on the Mac lipstick.

  1. Great dupe, especially for £1! I can never get how Makeup Revolution make money selling such good lip products for only £1 each.

  2. I think MUA has great lipstick dupes for more expensive makeup brands, and the quality is really good as well, so it's an always winner for me (I have to admit that I love my MAC lipsticks, and that I feel fancy whenever I but any of them, but having the opportunity of buying something similar but much cheaper...).
Nice post, I really like it!
Have a nice day, gorgeous! xx

  3. Wow this is such an amazing dupe and such a fraciton of MAC's price! I'm yet to try Velvet Teddy as I'm unsure it would suit my skin tone, so I'll definitely try out this MUA alternative :) x

    1. Thank you! You can get them from the actual MUA website, but the expensive delivery cost seems silly for such an inexpensive item, so you can pick them up from superdrug :) x

  5. I still haven't tried Velvet Teddy (it's always out of stock when I try and get my hands on it) but I'll definitely be picking this up! Thank you so much for sharing, you're a lifesaver haha! xx

  7. They are really similar shades, I've been wanting to get Velvet Teddy for a while, but I might pick up the MUA one first to try out the colour on me!
