HOW TO SHOP WHEN YOU HAVE NO MONEY

It's safe to say that we're all a little bit too familiar with the fact that we can't just go gallivanting around the shops, buying everything we take a fancy to. On one hand, I am extremely lucky to be going on a few trips away this year,  however, on the other hand, it means I have a lot of saving to do. Therefore, I don't have the money to spend on huge Boots or Topshop hauls. *Weeps in the corner* So, I thought I'd put together a few of my tips to help you shop on a budget.

BUDGET, BUDGET, BUDGET!
First, you need to decide how much money you have to spend. A good rule to follow is the 50/30/20 rule. I'm not sure where this rule first came from, but boy does it work well. Take a look at your income - reserve 50% for needs (a roof over your head/food on the table), 30% for wants (shopping, restaurants, TV), and 20% for savings/debt repayment. When you've done this, you have a more exact amount of money available, and if you stick to it, it's impossible to over-spend.

PRE-SHOP
As much as I love online shopping, nothing beats hitting the highstreet. The whole shopping experience is lost when you shop online. The texture of the clothes, the inviting fluorescent lights and that feeling you get in your feet after walking around all day that is so painful, but comes with such a sense of achievement. However, I think it's important to look around online before you hit the town. This means that you have an idea of what you're looking for, and it gives you more focus and less temptation to grab everything you think that you might need at some point in the rest of your life.

SHOP AROUND
Online shopping is also a great way to shop around for a better price. With sites like Polyvore and Style Compare, it's really easy to find cheaper alternatives of the clothes you want. When you've already found the best prices before you go shopping, it avoids the temptation to buy the first (potentially more expensive) version you see, just so you don't have to spend all day searching every shop for something similar.

I hope this has helped you save a few more pennies for your jolly holidays, or whatever it is you are saving up for.

If you have any more penny saving tips, leave them in the comments below. Good luck!
